The Carthusian monastery of Le Liget is an ancient Carthusian monastery in the heart of southern Touraine. Founded towards the end of the 12th century by Henry II Plantagenet, King of England and Count of Anjou, it is the only Carthusian monastery present in Touraine. In accordance with the Cartusian rule, La Chartreuse consists of a high house in Le Liget and a low house in La Corroirie. The Liget also has an isolated chapel in a clearing in the forest of Loches, where the first monks who founded the hermitage settled.
